James N. Salapatas, senior partner at Quality Management Consulting, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering and management.
Before transitioning into quality and project management, Mr. Salapatas spent 18 years working as an industrial engineer, a discipline that he describes as “combining all the different engineering disciplines in order to make things work.” With the guidance of a professor whose mentorship he considered instrumental to his professional development, Mr. Salapatas graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering and began working for Roadway Express in 1960.
He became a project control services manager for Florida Power & Light Company in 1972, departing in 1980 to spend two years as the Project Control division manager for the Washington Public Power Supply System. During this time, Mr. Salapatas continued his education at Florida International University, earning a Master of Science in management in 1979, and briefly remained at the school as adjunct faculty. Mr. Salapatas joined Price Waterhouse in 1982 as a senior manager and was named Vice President of Projects at Harnischfeger Engineers, Inc., in 1986 and Vice President of the Quality Service Division at Donohue & Associates in 1989.
Since 1991, Mr. Salapatas has been a senior partner at Quality Management Consulting, where he merges decades of diverse experience to provide clients with tailored solutions. In addition to his work with Quality Management Consulting, Mr. Salapatas was a senior consultant and member of faculty at DeVry University’s Corporate Center for Education until 2008 and served as an executive program management consultant for L.S. Gallegos between 2014 and 2017. He is the developer of the Suncam Courses project management curriculum and highschoolpm.net, a website offering teens project management strategies for balancing school and life, holds several patents in his field, and has contributed to the Project Management Institute Foundation “Industrial Engineering Handbook” (3rd ed.) and “The Implementation of Project Management Handbook.” A Registered Professional Engineer in three states and a Project Management Professional with additional certifications in Systems Integration, Mr. Salapatas previously served as the chair of the ANSI Flow Charting Standards Committee and on the Florida Governor’s Commission on Management and Efficiency. He is a lifetime member of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, a Senior Member of the American Society for Quality, and is active in the Project Management Institute.
