Ellen W. Bacon, President of The Ernst Bacon Society, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education and administration.

Hailing from a family of music lovers, Ms. Bacon recalls sitting and listening to Beethoven’s symphonies and piano sonatas at the age of 12. Choosing to draw her passion for music into her professional endeavors, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in music from Wellesley College in 1964 and a Master of Arts in music education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1965. When she turned 26 and lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she attended a Sierra Foundation Club trip and met her future husband, Ernst Bacon. A distinguished educator, Ms. Bacon excelled as an elementary vocal and instrumental music teacher for the Richmond Unified School District in Richmond and El Cerrito, California, for more than 20 years, from 1969 to 1991.

Presently, Ms. Bacon dedicates her professional endeavors to serving as the president of the Ernst Bacon Society, a role she commenced in 1995. The Ernst Bacon Society is a society for the Bacon family, as well as former students of Mr. Bacon, and other musicians. Founded in 1996 after his passing, Mr. Bacon was a Pulitzer-winning music composer who wrote classical music in all genres, but he was particularly known for his art song compositions.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Bacon plans to continue writing her own music and encouraging others to allow the joy of music into their own lives. She has uploaded some of her music to YouTube, which currently has more than 110,000 views. Furthermore, Ms. Bacon would like her granddaughter, Emily, to take over her works and keep her grandfather’s music alive, as her own interest in music has already begun to blossom.
