Yiselle Santos Rivera, vice president, medical planner, and firmwide director of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion at HKS Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in architecture and inclusivity.
Ms. Santos Rivera spent her childhood building models of cities and spaceships, and always knew she wanted to pursue a career in architecture. She obtained a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, in general sciences from the University of Puerto Rico in 2002 and a Master of Architecture, cum laude, from the Syracuse University School of Architecture in 2005. While completing her education, she is proud to have participated in study abroad programs through Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the City University of Hong Kong, and Columbia University. Upon graduation, she received the AIA, NOMA, LSSYB, LEED AP BD+C, and WELL AP designations and certifications. Throughout her career, she has excelled as an architect for SmithGroup and with HOK as a senior design professional, diversity task force leader, and blogger. Ms. Santos Rivera is the co-founder, treasurer, and director of fundraising for the Latin American Interior Designers, Architects, and Engineers AIA D.C. Committee and the founder of the Women Inspiring Emerging Women in Design Event in Washington, D.C.
In her current role, Ms. Santos Rivera creates and implements the firm’s corporate justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion policy and initiatives, and she strives to support the firm in mirroring the community’s needs with inclusive, accessible design. She is professionally affiliated with the American Institute of Architects, the National Organization of Minority Architects, and the DC Building Industry Association. For her contributions in the field, she is honored to have been presented with the AIA Associates Award, the AIA Washington DC Excellence Award in Urban Design Planning, and the Best of Building Award from Kapsarc. Looking toward the future, she aims to continue to strengthen the bonds between her office and the local community while forging a solid path to leadership in her firm.
