Angeles Delgado, senior vice president of CAMBA, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in community services.
Ms. Delgado lived and worked in the Galicia region of Spain as a farmer before immigrating to the United States to pursue other opportunities. She settled in New York, earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Brooklyn College and a master’s degree in social work from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. Ms. Delgado began her involvement with CAMBA, a non-profit agency committed to providing resources to underserved communities within New York City, as an ESL student in 1987. As the only person at the agency who spoke Spanish, she was asked to translate for undocumented immigrants seeking to have their citizenship legally processed.
Today, Ms. Delgado is the vice president of CAMBA’s HIV/AIDS housing and health related services, she oversees approximately 730 housing units occupied by people with HIV and AIDS and coordinates services for clients with substance use disorders, including mental health care, relapse prevention and supportive services, and nutrition support. She contributes her expertise to social marketing campaigns for acceptance, including the Project Ally program, which tells stories of acceptance from supportive parents and families of LGBTQ youth to change perceptions of the causes of HIV infection.
She attributes her success to her background, work ethic, and perseverance. Above all, she is honored to serve over 65,000 individuals and families each year, including 10,000 youth. Ms. Delgado considers the highlight of her career to be her HIV/AIDS change work, including HIV prevention contracts. Currently, she is involved in COVID-19 equity partner engagement, which promotes vaccinations in various communities through outreach and educational activities. Looking toward the future, her goal is to establish a program that will allow her to take on a consulting position following her retirement.
