Terry Cross, Founder and Principal at Cross Consulting, LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business consulting.
Mr. Cross comes from a storied line of business professionals. When his grandfather, who had spent most of his life as a sailor, arrived in the United States and settled in Detroit, he opened a ship chancellery and later created a machine that served as a power source for large steamers. Eventually transitioning into the machine tool business in the 1890s, Mr. Cross’ grandfather began creating machinery for the Ford Motor Company and became a close friend of Henry Ford. At 14 years of age, Mr. Cross found his very first job working at a machine shop, where he held a janitorial position, cleaning bathrooms and emptying wastebaskets.
Driven by a desire to help people be the best they can be in their professional relationships, negotiations and all the complexities of the venture capital world, Mr. Cross pursued an education at the Mike Ilitch School of Business at Wayne State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of the Business Administration. Thereafter, he began his career as a broker with Blyth, Eastman Dillon & Co. on Wall Street and spent four years in the position before joining Kidder, Peabody & Co. and General Electric as a broker from 1966 to 1989. Presently, Mr. Cross serves as the founder and principal for Cross Consulting, LLC.
Alongside his primary responsibilities, Mr. Cross has volunteered his time as a guest lecturer at his alma mater and, in 2015, the Mike Ilitch School of Business recognized him with the Outstanding Graduate Award. He attributes much of his success to his love for his work and counts himself incredibly fortunate to have found a career that is both productive and profitable. He lives his life by the motto, “Help everybody to do better than their best.”
Mr. Cross has spent many happy years married to his wife, who is an accomplished businessperson in her own right. She has built up a strong nonprofit advisory business and is the chief executive officer of the second-largest animal shelter in the state of Michigan. Together, they are proud parents of three children. In his free time, Mr. Cross enjoys sailing, yacht racing on the Great Lakes and swimming. He has sailed 16 times and swims three-quarters of a mile five days a week.
