Ann Alter Benson, Program Director at Jobs Plus Initiative Grant/Housing Authority, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in grant writing.
Since 2018, Ms. Benson has been the program director of the Independence Housing Authority’s Jobs Plus Initiative Grant, a project helping match farmworkers and micro-farms with grant money to stimulate workforce development. A graduate of the College of Saint Mary, Ms. Benson holds a Bachelor of Science in legal studies and earned her Master of Science in business strategy in 1990. Passionate about ending gender inequity in the workplace and creating opportunities for youth and young adults to develop meaningful job skills, she worked with 4H serving territories in Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska for more than 20 years.
Ms. Benson joined the Nebraska Department of Labor in 2016 as a part of the Migratory Farm Worker H2A Services program, and managed workforce grants for the Missouri Career Center FAC through 2018, when she moved into her current position. She has been presented with a Women in Agriculture Award and 4H’s National Salute to Excellence Award, and the program she manages was recognized by the Missouri Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment with a state-level First Place Rating in 2019. Ms. Benson credits her success to her parents’ support and strong community involvement, and her pride in the work that she does. She is a mentor and volunteer for the Missouri Women’s Employment Network, and served as the editor and publisher of Build Independence, a monthly newsletter.
