Cowles M. (Buddy) Spencer, Sr., Chief Executive Officer and Principal Broker at Mid-Atlantic Commercial Realty, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in real estate.
Interested in the real estate industry since his high school years, Mr. Spencer brought his dreams to life when he spearheaded Mid-Atlantic Commercial Realty in 1975. Since then, he has excelled as the chief executive officer and principal broker of the firm, while also having 12 residential agents, 15 commercial agents, and five staff on payroll. He has a manager in each division to oversee the transactions of the agents, and he oversees the managers. In his career, Mr. Spencer has been involved in the development of 16 percent of all the houses in York County and has built seven different retirement communities. With this sentiment, he was honored as Builder of the Year by the Peninsula Housing and Builders Association in 1983 and 1988.
To remain abreast of his industry, Mr. Spencer maintains affiliation with the Coastal Housing Association, National Association of Realtors, Virginia Realty Association and Peninsula Housing and Builders Association. He has also sat on the board of the Peninsula Ports Authority, is a former member of the Legislative Committee of Home Builders Association of Virginia and former co-chairman of fundraising for the Boys and Girls Club. Reflecting on his career, he attributes his success to focus and perseverance, along with the influence of his mother, father and uncle, Clinton Spencer, who was an entrepreneur involved in numerous activities nationwide. He hopes his children will take over his business in the coming years. Mr. Spencer earned a Bachelor of Science in local science, psychology and history from the University of Mississippi in 1968.
