Anacleto R. Alcantra, President at Group Builders, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in construction.
Mr. Alcantra immigrated to Honolulu from the Philippines in 1973 and since 1979 has prospered as the founder and president of Group Builders, Inc., Hawaii’s largest specialty finishing contractor, specializing in drywall, acoustics, fireproofing, cabinets, insulation including exterior insulation finish systems and millwork. In more than 40 years, the company has accumulated over $1 billion in gross revenues and has completed over 1700 projects. The company began with six employees and has now grown to 450, is in the top 15 contractors in Hawaii and the top 200 contractors in the United States.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the Mapúa Institute of Technology, now Mapúa University, in Manila in 1958. Mr. Alcantra later became the school’s dean of technology in 1973. He found much success with Acoustic Insulation & Drywall, Inc., Honolulu, from 1973 to 1978, becoming an executive vice president.
Mr. Alcantra’s honors include Entrepreneur of the Year Awards from Ernst and Young LLP in Hawaii and the Filipino Chamber of Commerce in Hawaii, an Outstanding Union Builders Award from the Hawaii Carpenters Union, the Pamana ng Pilipino Award conferred on overseas Filipino individuals, who, in exemplifying the talent and industry have brought the country honor and recognition through excellence and distinction in the pursuit of their work or profession from Philippines President Fidel V. Ramos. In addition, he has accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award from the United Filipino Council, Hawaii, Businessman of the Year Award from Kalayaan Centennial Celebration Huwaran and was selected for a Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award.
Proving his dedication to his community, Mr. Alcantra founded the Filipino Community Center in Hawaii, served as president of the Filipino Chamber of Commerce in Hawaii and has been a member of the General Contractors Association of Hawaii, as well as a trustee of the Hawaii Laborers Union and secretary of the Hawaii Drivers Association.
Mr. Anacleto attributes his success to hard work, honesty, humility and attitude. In the coming years, he is hoping for continued success with Group Buildiers, Inc. Coming from a very poor family, he would like other people to think that anybody in the world can be successful if they work hard and “go for it.”
