William Elder, General Manager at the Lamp Theatre, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in theater management.
Mr. Elder has excelled as an experienced operations manager with a demonstrated history of working in the entertainment industry, skilled in sales, communication, event management and leadership. Since 2016 he has prospered as a production manager and then general manager of The Lamp Theatre in Irwin, a classic venue that had first opened in 1937 and closed in 2004. In 2007, the Westmoreland Cultural Trust purchased the building and were going to renovate it using government money and go the non-profit route. Unfortunately, in 2009 when they started the project, the hotel which sat next door caught on fire which was a massive inferno that took 32 volunteer fire departments to put it out, causing water damage to the theater. When the trust sold the building to the town for $1.00, grant money was raised and a team of volunteers restored the building, which reopened as a performance venue in 2016.
Mr. Elder’s responsibilities include booking live entertainment, programming, scheduling, oversight production, production backstage, staffing, advertisement, insurance, fundraising and customer service. Previously, he had owned and operated a recruitment agency in Pittsburgh and an engineer and stage manager with Latcha Productions.
Citing his passion and love for art, Mr. Elder cites his love for entertaining people as the reasons for his success with the Lamp. His goal is to find foundation money, someone who is willing to support the theater and help them grow. He intends to stay with the nonprofit until they can pay for programming and employment.
