Paul Bentel, Partner at Bentel and Bentel, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executive for dedication, achievements, and leadership in architecture and architecture education.
Since 1982, Dr. Bentel has flourished as a partner in the Bentel and Bentel, a leading architectural firm founded by Maria and Frederick Bentel in 1957 and overseen today by their sons Peter and Paul Bentel and Paul’s wife Carol Rusche Bentel. The firm’s work has included libraries, gymnasia, classrooms, research and religious buildings as well as some of the finest hotels and restaurants in the world including Le Bernardin, the Grand Hyatt lobby in New York and Andaz Hotels in Beijing and Austin, Texas.
Dr. Bentel, who earned a Doctor of Philosophy in history theory and criticism from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1992 and a Master of Arts in architecture from Harvard College in Cambridge in 1982, has also taken the lead in architectural education at Columbia University, serving as a professor of architecture and director of the university’s history preservation program. In addition, he has prospered as a professor with the School of Design at Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts and a professor of architecture with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From 1988 to 1990 Dr. Bentel excelled as the director of the American Architectural Design Studio at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.
Dr. Bentel considers his career highlight to be his three awards in Best Restaurant Design by the James Beard Foundation. In the coming years, he would like to continue his firm’s work in hospitality while expanding into high-end residential work.
