After obtaining an Associate in Arts in liberal arts and sciences from Tyler Junior College, Texas in 1978, Mr. Lumpkins followed with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1974 and a Master of Business Administration in management from the Rawls School of Business in 1986 from Texas Tech University, Lubbock. From 1989 to 2007, he excelled as an architect with various firms in the Dallas area including CYP, Inc. and Fusch Serold and Partners, and taught architecture with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Shah Alam, Malaysia and the College of Architecture at Texas Tech.
Since 2007, to pursue his passion for designing homes based on classical influences, Mr. Lumpkins opened L. Lumpkins Architects, a boutique firm specializing in residential architecture. His extensive travels and work in Europe and Asia as well as outstanding mentors have given him practical knowledge to pair with his talent for design. His portfolio includes homes in size ranging from 2,000 to 25,000 square feet.
Mr. Lumpkins’ dedication to his clients has contributed to his success throughout the years. He is passionate about helping each of them turn their definition of a home into a more cohesive plan, ensuring that his designs incorporate their personality. Consequently, their home becomes a reflection of who they are. Personalization of a home’s design to match that of a client has been a prime component of Mr. Lumpkins’ success.
Mr. Lumpkins has been recognized as one of the Top 19 Architects in Dallas by Expertise.com and has also garnered Top 10 Buildzoom, Best of Houzz Design and Best D Home by D Magazine, a monthly lifestyle periodical in Dallas. In addition, he was named one of North America’s Top Luxury Home Architects by the BOND Custom Top 100, a ranking of North America’s best luxury residential architecture firms. He is licensed to practice in Texas and Oklahoma.
It was during his sophomore year in college that Mr. Lumpkins discovered that he was carving a career path in architecture. As early as 10, he was already sketching plans for houses and recalls being engrossed in the drawings of his uncle, who was an architectural engineer. He has always been fascinated with drawing and had even taken drafting courses in secondary school. As a career highlight, Mr. Lumpkins believes that each home he has been able to design is his greatest achievement. He finds that his clients and the joy they feel for their home and surroundings give him a sense of gratification.
In the coming years, Mr. Lumpkins intends to continue to grow L. Lumpkins Architects and find some young talents that he can help develop and eventually take over his firm. Currently, he is currently working on a 25,000 square foot Italian Renaissance-style home.
