In 1972, Mr. Roberts built Dallas’ first emergency medical service (EMS), training more than 200 workers. He joined the Austin Fire Department as fire chief in 1983, remaining in that capacity until 1994.
After coursework at Southern Methodist and North Texas State Universities, Mr. Roberts completed a graduate paramedic course at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1974 and a graduate executive program for fire service at Texas A&M University in 1978. He obtained an Associate in Applied Sciences from El Centro Junior College in Dallas in 1980 and later continued his education with coursework in an executive fire officer program at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland in 1989.
The recipient of a John Stemmons Service Award by the Dallas Fire Department and honored as International Association Fire Chiefs Scholar, Mr. Roberts has been featured in every edition of Who’s who in America since 1990 and appears in several dozen editions of Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who in the World and most recently the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement honor.
