Rev. Dr. John M. McCay, III, Minister at Handsboro United Methodist Church, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in church leadership.
Rev. McCay first felt a calling to become a minister at the age of five, when his grandfather was a minister and his father was serving in the military. From 1998 through today, he has excelled as Wing Chaplain with the Mississippi Air National Guard, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel, and since 2020, he has served in Task Force Magnolia in Mississippi, which he considers one of the most rewarding ministry opportunities he has ever had. Rev. McCay has assisted in providing morale visits and assisted in disease testing and vaccinations for National Guard members during the COVID-19 pandemic.
After initially obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg in 1997, Rev. McCay followed with a Master of Divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary in 2000 and later continued his education with a Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary in 2019. For more than 20 years, he has provided spiritual leadership in Mississippi at Winborn Chapel United Methodist Church, Shipman United Methodist Church, Gateway United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church and presently with Handsboro United Methodist Church. He has served in leadership positions with the Kiwanis Club and Boy Scouts.
Rev. McCay attributes his success to his deep faith and the congregation with which he has been blessed, as well as his passion for his work as a minister and for serving and helping others.
