Fire Chief Marvin Riggins, Fire Chief at Macon-Bibb Fire Department, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in emergency management.
Mr. Riggins obtained a Bachelor of Science in public administration and later a Master of Science in governmental public administration from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. Inspired by his brother, who joined the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department after serving in the military, Mr. Riggins became a firefighter in 1979 and rose through the ranks of private, sergeant, lieutenant, chief of training, assistant fire chief and finally to the chief of the department, a position he held until his retirement in 2020.
Mr. Riggins’ many honors include three Firefighter of the Year awards, Macon Optimist Community Service Award, Shields Club Award and Paramedic of the Year Award, as well as the 2009 Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs President’s Award, the 2016 Georgia Fire Chief of the Year and the 2016 Georgia Fire Chief’s Designation Certification. In addition, he was granted a Special Presidential Award in 2017 from the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs, along with the International Association of Fire Chiefs Career Fire Chief of the Year. Mr. Riggins also points with pride to his selection for inclusion in Who’s Who in Leadership of America.
Mr. Riggins attributes his success to his strong bonds with his family. He considers his most notable achievement his selection as Firefighter of the Year on three consecutive occasions, as well as his winning the Georgia Fire Chief of the Year Award and International Fire Chief of the Year Award. In the coming years, Mr. Riggins is hoping to continue to make a difference in the lives of the young people in his community and also wants to ensure the citizens of Macon and Bibb County continue to enjoy the absolute best in fire and emergency services protection.
