The Honorable John T. McNabb, II, Lead Director of Continental Resources, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the oil and gas industry.
Mr. McNabb obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966 from Trinity College of Arts and Sciences at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Later he obtained a Master of Business Administration in finance from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. In 1965 as a captain of the Duke football team, he was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player as his team won the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. He was honored by conference coaches as the winner of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy and he was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All Conference team and named to two All America teams. He served his country in air combat during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971, recording 137 combat sorties over Laos, North and South Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin. Mr. McNabb’s military honors include the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross; he was also a finalist for the Pacific Air Force Junior Officer of the Year in 1970.
Entering the oil and gas industry in 1979 with the exploration and production division of Mobil Oil Corporation, Mr. McNabb is currently the lead director of Continental Resources, a top 10 American oil producer based in Oklahoma City founded by Harold Hamm. Continental is the largest leaseholder and one of the largest producers in the nation’s premier oil field, the Bakken Field of North Dakota and Montana. In addition, Mr. McNabb served as chairman and chief executive officer of Willbros Group, one of the largest international energy contractors. Willbros was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). He currently serves on two NYSE listed company boards, Continental Resources, and Cypress Environmental Partners. In total, he has served on the boards of eight publicly listed companies over his career including serving as chairman and chief executive officer of a Fortune 1000 company and serving as the Lead Independent Director of two Fortune 500 sized companies.
Mr. McNabb and Mr. Hamm co-founded the Trump Leadership Council during the 2016 presidential campaign, and subsequently Mr. McNabb was honored by President Donald J. Trump with a presidential appointment to become a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Council (Board of Trustees) and serves on the Finance and Governance Committees. In addition, John and Darlene McNabb manage the affairs of the John and Darlene McNabb Charitable Foundation, which focuses on at-risk children, faith-based education and the teaching of traditional American values. Most recently, Mr. McNabb was named by Mr. Hamm to the advisory board and executive committee of the Hamm Institute for American Energy. Based in Oklahoma City the Hamm Institute is an affiliate of Oklahoma State University
In 2021, Mr. McNabb published “A Nice Ride: Stories of America,” a memoir discussing histories of great leaders, including some who were his ancestors. The foreword and tribute were written by Harold Hamm and Charles C. Stephenson, Jr.
