Sheriff Joey Terrell, Sheriff at Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in security and law enforcement.
As Sheriff of Habersham County, Georgia since 2008, Mr. Terrell has the responsibility of protecting life and property for the preservation of public peace, which includes all law enforcement functions associated with those endeavors. In addition, he provides physical security in the courtrooms and courthouse, serving as Bailiff to the Superior Court and is charged with serving all court summons and executing all court-ordered levies on property to satisfy judgments in court actions. He is also responsible for the transportation of mentally ill residents of the county to mental health emergency receiving facilities. As the official jailer of the county, Mr. Terrell is responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of all inmates.
Mr. Terrell’s memberships include the Georgia Sheriff’s Association, the National Sheriff’s Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Rotary Club. He has been awarded a Chairman’s Award by the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce, honored as an Outstanding Member of the Community by the Georgia Democratic Party and awarded a Purple Heart Award by the Georgia House of Representatives.
Mr. Terrell attributes his success to his keeping a pulse on his community, knowing how they want to be protected, as well as his deep faith and the encouragement of his family. He became a sheriff because of his desire to make a difference in someone’s life, to help those who don’t have anyone to stand for them and get them justice. Mr. Terrell has always wanted to be the person that helps someone on the side of the road with a flat tire or is in need of other assistance. He considers his election as sheriff his career highlight and looks forward to aiding the people of Habersham County as sheriff for years to come.
