John Seto, Arts Administrator at California Arts Council, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in arts and the humanities.

With over forty years of experience in museum curation and public sector arts funding, Mr. Seto has served on numerous national, regional and local panels that adjudicate grant applications. He initially pursued studies in Chinese art history at the College of Chinese Culture in Taipei, Taiwan from 1974 to 1975, during which time he served as an English translator at the National Palace Museum. Soon thereafter, Mr. Seto obtained a Master of Art and Archaeology of China at the School of Oriental and African Studies in the University of London in 1978.

Mr. Seto excelled as the curator of oriental art with the Birmingham Museum of Art, Alabama, from 1980 to 1986 and the coordinator of traditional and ethnic arts with the Ohio Arts Council, a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally, and economically from 1990 to 1994, while also serving as the director of the joint program in the arts and humanities for the Ohio Humanities Council. In the Bay Area of California, he has provided superior service as the executive director of the Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco from 1994 to 1997 and the executive director of the Oakland Asian Cultural Center from 1998 to 2000.

Since 2000, Mr. Seto has excelled as Arts Program Specialist and Special Projects Associate for the California Arts Council, an organization based in Sacramento that supports local arts infrastructure and programming statewide through grants, programs, and services.  He attributes his success and achievements to teachings of secular humanism, of Confucianism, the Taoist philosophy that was taught to him as being as the spine of the Chinese culture. In the coming years, Mr. Seto is dedicated to the broader goal of helping people to appreciate the differences in others and to take the time to know other people.
