Cpl. Julie L. Swank, Corporal at Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law enforcement.
After obtaining an associate’s degree in criminal justice from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in 2017, Ms. Swank followed with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and administration from National University in La Jolla, California, where she continued her education with a master’s degree in forensics in 2019. In addition, she served her country in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Petty Officer Second Class while on active duty for eight years as an engineman, earning the rank of Petty Officer First Class in the Navy Select Reserves for a year. Ms. Swank achieved several honors during her service that included an Army Achievement Medal from the Navy, as well as two humanitarian medals for search and rescue following a tsunami in Japan.
Following service as a deputy in the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and Beaufort City Police Department, since 2021, Ms. Swank has provided superior service as a corporal for the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, performing patrol duties, responds to calls for service, enforces local, state, and federal laws, and holds a supervisor position over a team on road patrol. She investigates crimes, prosecutes low misdemeanor charges in magistrate court, and testifies in general sessions court on felony cases, as well as collects evidence at crime scenes, forensic photography, and serves arrest warrants.
Ms. Swank attributes her success to the love, encouragement and support of her father, as well as her mentors in the Navy, Engineman 1st Class Rivera and Senior Chief Brian Metzker. She was inspired by the movie “Medal of Honor” to challenge herself, so she joined the Navy and subsequently pursued her career in law enforcement. Ms. Swank considers her career highlight becoming the first female combat support technician for Swiss detachment in the Navy. In coming years, her goal us to be a part of the Criminal Investigation Division with the department for which she currently works.
