Kathryn Atwood, Coordinated School Health and Food Service Supervisor at Trousdale County Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in school health admiistration.

Following obtaining a Bachelor of Science in child and family studies from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1976, Ms. Atwood later followed with a Master of Arts in educational administration and supervision in 1988 from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville. She continued her education with coursework in child growth and learning from 1996 to 1999 at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee.

From 1978 to 1989, Ms. Atwood provided superior service as an extension agent for the University of Tennessee, during which she planned, implemented and evaluated the Adult and Youth Home Economics Education Program for Trousdale County. As editor of the Hartsville Vidette from 1989 to 1992, she managed day-to-day operations of a weekly newspaper, including advertising, writing, editing, layout, circulation and community relations. Ms. Atwood then excelled as program manager for Mid-Cumberland CAA Head Start/Early Head Start in Murfreesboro, Tennessee from 1992 to 2007, where she planned and implemented program operations, interviewing, hiring and training staff, coordinating child and adult/parent programming and promoting Head Start/Early Head Start in associated communities.

Ms. Atwood found success as Upper Cumberland Regional Consultant, Coordinated School Health for the Tennessee Department of Education from 2015 to 2017. There, she provided resources, information and training to Coordinated School Health staff members in the Upper Cumberland School Districts in Tennessee. In 2007, she assumed her current role as supervisor of Coordinated school health for Trousdale County Schools, in which she coordinates health-related activities, conducts trainings, evaluates programs, recruits volunteers for partnerships, writes grants ($2.5 million to date), conducts community assessments and represents program at various community events.

Ms. Atwood’s many career honors include Tennessee Department of Human Services Regional Friend of the Year; Tennessee Chapter, American Cancer Society Lifesaver of the Year; National Spiritual Development Award Winner for Tennessee and U.S. Jaycee Women; and the National and Regional Winner for Marketing Package, National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (for Get Healthy Hartsville Program).

Ms. Atwood became involved in her profession goes back to when she was in high school and they took their aptitude test and the results showed that she should be a nun. Thus, service to humanity has always been part of who and what she stands for and what she is about. In fact, the work that she has been involved in has all been connected to humanitarianism in some way. In the coming years, she is hoping to further help her community.
