Since 2002, Mr. Goldzweig has provided superior service as a religious scribe with Mobile Sofer in Brooklyn, New York, in which his responsibilities include writing prayers in mezuzahs, which consist of pieces of parchment known as a klaf, contained in a decorative case and inscribed with specific Hebrew verses from the Torah. In addition, he inscribes prayers on scrolls placed inside tefillin, or sets of small black leather boxes with leather straps containing scrolls of parchment that are also inscribed with verses from the Torah. In addition, he inscribes Torah scrolls that are used in synagogues. Additionally, by appointment, he goes to homes and offices to inspect and restore mezuzahs. He also inspects mezuzahs and tefillin that are brought to him.
Mr. Goldzweig serves his community as a volunteer in Torah reading and as a volunteer teacher in Jewish law with Partners in Torah, an organization providing instruction over the phone or on FaceTime. He attributes his success to practice and learning by watching others how to efficiently and neatly scribe.
As a career highlight, Mr. Goldzweig cites writing a Megillah, a scroll that displays the Story of The Purim holiday in in the Book of Esther.
