Ms. Howe is an experienced financial professional, and has been the founder, owner, and chief executive officer of Windbeam Risk Analytics for more than a decade. She is an industry trailblazer, as the first in her field to organize the use of analytics in financial risk management. Among her accomplishments, she is proud of her contributions to building the modern structure of the industry as early as the 1980s.
In preparation for her career, Ms. Howe attended the University of Michigan and earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1989. She later graduated from New York University in 1992 with a Master of Arts in economics. Returning to her higher education decades later, Ms. Howe completed an additional master’s degree in liberal arts and mathematics education from Harvard University in 2022. Alongside her formal degrees, she earned a certificate in blockchain technologies from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2019.
With decades of experience, Ms. Howe served as an adjunct professor at the Brandeis University International Business School in 2013 and was the chief risk officer with Sovereign Bank/Santander Holdings USA from 2012 to 2013. From 2010 to 2013, she was an adjunct professor in the University of Connecticut’s Master of Science in Financial Risk Management program. From 2010 to 2012, Ms. Howe was an adjunct faculty member in the Master of Financial Engineering program at Baruch College, and from 2010 to 2011, she was a chief risk officer with Hartford Investment Management. Working for numerous institutions in the financial risk management industry over the course of her professional pursuits, she began her career as a portfolio accountant with Fidelity Investments from 1982 to 1985.
Ms. Howe has found success through her written works, authoring “1999 Risk Survey: The Next Frontier” with Treasury & Risk Management in 1999. She additionally wrote “Hedging: Measuring the Initial Risk” with the Financial Managers Society Inc. and “A Guide to Managing Interest Rate Risk, New York Institute of Finance” with Simon & Schuster in 1991. Ms. Howe attributes her success to her ability to tell the truth and correctly identify and prepare for risks. Among her career accomplishments, she is proudest of working as a chief risk officer for Angelo Gordon, as she protected him from dubious investors. In her spare time, Ms. Howe enjoys reading and solving puzzles.
