Patsy Yarborough Sawyer, Chief Operating Officer at the Darlington Community Foundation and Executive Director of the Macedonia Life-Skills Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nonprofit leadership.
In preparation for her career, Ms. Sawyer attended Coker University and earned a Bachelor of Science in human resources management in 1994. In 1996, she graduated from Webster University with a Master of Arts in human resources training and development. In 2005, Ms. Sawyer became an Accredited Level 4 Standard Triple P- Positive Parenting Program Provider with Building Connections. In 1997, she Became a Certified Grants Specialist with Research Associates.
Since 2020, Ms. Sawyer has been the chief operating officer of the Darlington Community Foundation, formerly the Genesis Community Foundation. Since 1998, she has served as the executive director of the Macedonia Life-Skills Center. From 2007 to 2009, she garnered experience as the director of the Pee Dee Branch of the Harvest Hope Food Bank, and from 2006 to 2007, she was the community agency relations manager with the Harvest Hope Food Bank. Prior to these positions, Ms. Sawyer held numerous posts with the Pee Dee Coalition, and from 1984 to 1987, she was a Flo County administrator.
Alongside her professional endeavors, Ms. Sawyer has served as a deacon at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and a teacher at the church school and vacation bible school. She was the director of the after-school program with the Macedonia Baptist Church and secretary of the deacon’s department with the Pee Dee Missionary Baptist Association. Ms. Sawyer was inspired to pursue her career in nonprofit leadership after seeing children living on the streets. She spoke with her pastor about finding ways to help them. Among her achievements, she is proudest of starting the Macedonia Life-Skills Center.
For her achievements, Ms. Sawyer received a Florence Toastmasters Best Speaking Award in 1999 and an Editor’s Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry from the National Library of Poetry in 1998. She was listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges in 1995, named to the Dean’s List at Coker University from 1992 to 1994, and named to the National Dean’s List from 1992 to 1994. Ms. Sawyer received the Dale Carnegie Human Relations Award and the Dale Carnegie Special Achievement Award for Effective Speaking in 1987.
