With more than 60 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Grossman has excelled as the host of the television program “Enviro Close-Up with Karl Grossman” since 1991 and a professor of investigative reporting and environmental journalism with the State University of New York at Old Westbury since 1978. Prior to these positions, he served as a reporter with The Babylon Town Leader from 1962 to 1964 and The Long Island Press from 1964 to 1977. Likewise, he was formerly active as the chief investigate reporter for WVH-TV, the co-anchor for “Nightly News” with WLIW-TV and the host for “Long Island World” for WLIW-TV. Mr. Grossman has found success with his written works as well, having authored such publications as “Cover Up: What You Are Not Supposed to Know About Nuclear Power” in 1980, “The Poison Conspiracy” in 1982, “Power Crazy: Is LILCO Turning Shoreham Into America’s Chernobyl?” in 1986, “Wrong Stuff: The Space Program’s Nuclear Threat to Our Planet” in 1997, “Weapons in Space” in 2000 and “Cold War Long Island” in 2021.

To support his professional ambitions, Mr. Grossman earned a bachelor’s degree from Empire State University, part of the State University of New York system, in 1975 before graduating from The New School with a Master of Arts in media studies in 1981. Attributing his success to his belief in helping others, he has been presented with such accolades as the John Peter Zenger Award, the 1970 George Polk Award, the 1997 Media Hero Award from the Media and Democracy Congress and the 1998 James Aronson Award in Environmental Journalism. He has also been recognized as the Journalist of the Year by The Press Club of Long Island, an inductee of the Long Island Journalism Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Environmentalist of the Year by the Sierra Club Long Island Group in 2018. Among the many highlights of his career, he is particularly proud of having challenged the Long Island Lighting Company’s plan to build multiple nuclear power plants during his journalistic endeavors. Looking toward the future, Mr. Grossman aims to take a sabbatical from teaching to write his next book.
