Before that, he was chief operations officer at Vodafone Germany from 2013 to 2016, senior vice president of channel management at T-Mobile US from 2010 to 2013, senior vice president of international sales and service at Deutsche Telekom from 2009 to 2010, chief executive officer at Tele2 Austria from 2006 to 2008, and associate principal and senior marketing and sales expert at McKinsey & Company from 1996 to 2006.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Dr. Hackl earned a master’s degree in international management and a master’s degree in commerce from the Vienna University of Economics and Business in 1995. He completed a Master of Business Administration in marketing at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in 1998, where he also made the Dean’s List. He later earned a PhD in marketing with high distinction from the University of Vienna in 2004, and he is a member of the CEMS Alumni Association, where he served as president from 2008 to 2010. In recognition of his achievements, he was honored by the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society in 1998, and he was recognized as the Best Newcomer Band in Austria and by the State Governor of Lower Austria.
Dr. Hackl takes great pride in successfully leading a company turnaround at the age of 36, just six months after stepping into a consulting role. Under his leadership, the company, struggling with negative cash flow and earnings before interest and depreciation, achieved a significant turnaround, reaching a 10% profit margin. Beyond financial improvements, he also addressed customer complaints and cultivated high team morale. He attributes his success to his unwavering discipline, relentless pursuit of quality, and commitment to genuine insights. Additionally, despite English not being his native language, his team frequently seeks his expertise in refining copy, recognizing his mastery of language and exacting approach to writing as pivotal to his success. In offering advice to aspiring professionals, he emphasizes the importance of mastering your trade. He advises, “First of all, learn your trade. Do your homework. Get a good mentor and coach who has seen a lot, and recognize that you will develop your skills step by step. A good mentor will guide you through this process.”
