Maj. Barbara S. King, Branch Manager of the Resource Management Branch at the Facilities Division of the Missouri Army National Guard, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Business.
Maj. King is grateful to God for keeping her on track, to her mother for raising her to be the best, and is constantly striving to make a difference. She is very proud of being deployed to Iraq and though it was difficult to be away so long, she was able to meet and work with military members from around the world and humbled by the lives of the Iraqi people. Maj. King was honored to lead an incredible group of soldiers and continues to serve the National Guard. She has been honored numerous times for her service and is aiming for the rank of lieutenant colonel. Maj. King is the recipient of a Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award and an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, featured in Who’s Who of American Women.
In her current role as the resource manager of the Resource Management Branch at the Facilities Division of the Missouri Army National Guard, Maj. King oversees and performs program analysis, including planning, programming, budgeting, and funds allocation. She provides guidance in the development and preparation of budget submissions, execution and closeout as well as reviews and consolidates annual and multi-year budgets into succinct budget submissions. Maj. King also coordinates project funding, approves special project funding requests, projects cash flows and prepares allotment plans. Furthermore, she reviews and processes state reimbursement vouchers and successfully manages a team of four individuals, all whom provide direct support to the resource management branch.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Maj. King initially entered the Armed Forces to help with college finances. By the end of her training, she was hooked and knew it was what she wanted to do for life. After advanced individual training, she began looking for a position in the National Guard, and nine months later she was hired in her first U.S. Department of Defense position. Maj. King was able to complete college and studied music at Excelsior College. She earned an MS in performance improvement from Grantham University in 2017 and is a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt as well as a certified Defense Financial Manager.
Maj. King holds a 2009 Regional Award for Excellence from the U.S. Army as well as Team Member Citations and Team Member Awards from the U.S. Armed Forces. She specializes as a strategic planner, coach, and advocate for continuous process improvement. Maj. King volunteers with Compassion International and wants to be remembered as someone who thoroughly enjoyed work and life. Her favorite quotes are, “If you are afraid of failing, you will never achieve true success or win a decisive victory. Only people who never do anything make no mistakes, and that is the greatest mistake of all,” by General Patton and, “Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened.” Maj. King enjoys music, viola, piano, percussion, martial arts, drawing, painting, and distance running.
