Joanne Fern, Business Owner at J&S Operated Equipment Rentals, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Equipment Rentals.
Attributing her success to hard work, perseverance, and an ability to keep customers happy, Ms. Fern is proud of the continued growth at J&S Operated Equipment Rentals. She began the company in 1993 with her husband, Scott, to provide excavating, demolition, and grading services. Her background in administration and his background in heavy machinery made them the perfect team, and they gradually expanded from one backhoe and one truck to four bobcats, a 950-wheel loader, one excavator, two backhoes, two water trucks, two remote control compactor trucks, and several antique trucks and cars. They faced a rough patch in 2010, when the economy crash hit them hard, but they didn’t give up. Instead, they began to reinvent themselves and rebuild the company. In less than seven years, J&S Operated Equipment Rentals was thriving again, and Ms. Fern’s responsibilities came to include billing, overseeing insurance and human resource responsibilities, and managing all operations.
Ms. Fern’s introduction to the field came when her husband’s coworker needed more owners and operators. She decided to accept the contract opportunity, and knew she had found what she was meant to be doing. Prior to this, Ms. Fern had been garnering professional experience as a bindery and pressperson at Reseda Printing. Her academic background includes a 1978 high school diploma from North Hollywood High School. To keep up with developments in her field, she joined prominent organizations like the Council of Better Business Bureaus, Contractors Register, Inc., and the Air Resources Board.
In her spare time, Ms. Fern enjoys watching NASCAR and supporting various charitable organizations. She is currently a member of Angels Against Hunger, and is always willing to lend a hand where needed. After the 1994 earthquake in California, for example, she brought the first responders food. Looking to the future, Ms. Fern hopes to keep busy and stay happy.
