Amassing more than 40 years of professional experience, Ms. O’Brien is an esteemed communications executive who has been serving the Essex County Tax Board as a commissioner since 2008 and Anamex, Inc., as president since 1995. Prior to these illustrious roles, she served Avionics Division ITT in Nutley, NJ, in several capacities, including as a consultant of strategic planning, senior manager of projects, and manager of projects between 1980 and 1995. In addition, she served the Defense Communications Division ITT in Nutley as a voice processing project, manager of cost of schedule control, controller of manpower, and administrator of programs between 1977 and 1980.
Alongside her primary endeavors, Ms. O’Brien has been chairman of the board of trustees of the South Mountain Counseling Center since 1994 and president of the Maplewood Civic Association since 2000, having also served in countless other civic positions. Such positions include chairman of the Maplewood Republican County Committee, chairman of the Maple Leaf Service Award Committee, appointed fellow of Leadership New Jersey, chairman of the leadership division and chairman of the speakers bureau of the United Way of Essex and West Hudson, chairman of the council chapter of the President Interaction Committee, and chairman of the Community Service Council of Orange and Maplewood Homelessness and Affordable Housing, among other community activities.
Ms. O’Brien holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and she was certified in project management in 1989. A contributor of several articles to esteemed journals, she has also penned several poems and the book “Voices,” published in 1982. Throughout her career, she has maintained affiliation with the Lions Club International, currently serving as third vice chairman, state advisor, district MD16 treasurer, international district 16-E governor and secretary. In recognition of her exceptional contributions to her industry, she has been honored with a number of accolades, including the Maplewood New Jersey Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award in 2005, the Phoebe and Benjamin Shackelford Award from United Way in 1992, the Maple Leaf Award for Outstanding Community Service in 1992, and the Meritorious Service Recognition Award from International Project Management Association in 1989 and 1990, among others. Notably, Ms. O’Brien has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
