William B. Adkinson, Retired Associate Staff Manager from Bell South Telephone, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in electronics.
Drawing upon more than three decades of professional experience, Mr. Adkinson retired in 1987 after spending the latter half of his career employed by Bell South Telephone, where he served as an associate staff manager for eight years. During this time, he also held the roles of treasurer of C-Paw, Inc., for five years and owner and manager of Bill Adkinson Contractor in Jacksonville, Florida, for 12 years. He commenced his career with the Southern Bell Telephone Company as a lineman, cable splicer, switching technician, communication technician, and senior engineer, where he handled the communications out of Cape Canaveral, Florida. He was influenced to enter the field by his family, who were involved in the telephony industry.
Mr. Adkinson was a student at the University of Kentucky and Rollins College throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Equally passionate about his community, he has been the president of the San Jose Civic Association since 1980, having formerly served in the same capacity for the San Jose Lake Association for 14 years and as a member of the Kings Trail School Advisory Council for four years. In 1984, he additionally authored a book, “Power Phobia and Its Cure.”
In an effort to remain aware of recent developments within the industry, Mr. Adkinson has maintained affiliation with the Telephone Pioneers of America. Likewise, he is a 50-year member of the Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church. As a testament to his success, Mr. Adkinson was the recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Award from the Duval County Community of Education in 1982. Additionally, he was featured in the 20th edition of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, published in 1985.
