Title: Director of Technical Development
Company: Welded Tube Company
Location: Tucson, Arizona, United States
David Alligood, Director of Technical Development at the Welded Tube Company, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in electrical engineering.
Early on in his life, Mr. Alligood desired to become involved with designing and building of facilities. Hired in 1969 by the Welded Tube Company, a company he stayed with for the duration of his career, he commenced his profession as a manager of engineering for nearly a decade before ascending the ranks to manager of operations for one year between 1978 and 1979. Thereafter, he served as the assistant vice president of operations from 1979 to 1980 and vice president of engineering and planning from 1980 to 1988. Since 1988, he has been the director of technical development at the company, having also sat on its board of directors since 1987. He cites the highlight of his career to have been choosing to stay with Welded Tube Company when he was at a crossroads in his life; he felt he made the right decision, as the company provided accommodations for him in recognition of his value as an employee.
A former student of the University of Georgia, the University of California, Los Angeles, and California State University, Los Angeles, Mr. Alligood formerly served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959, when he was honorably discharged as a sergeant. In an effort to remain abreast of developments within his profession, he has maintained affiliation with several organizations, including the Association for Iron and Steel Technology, the International Tube Association, and the Lake Calumet Sanitary Association, where he sat as chairman of the board and acted as president from 1983 to 1990.
Reflecting on his life, Mr. Alligood notes that his career path was simply an outgrowth of what he was already doing, and he built upon that foundation to create the prolific, fruitful career which he has been experiencing for the past 50 years. He attributes his success to his many mentors, including Raymond Didinger and Luis Balis, who was the president and chief executive officer of the Welded Tube Company. Wishing to be remembered as a fair, knowledgeable and diligent worker, he plans on spending the remainder of his career relaxing and enjoying time spent with his family. Married to Edna Price since 1954, he is the proud father of three children: Laura, Candace and Matthew. In his spare time, he enjoys engine building, racing and admiring sports cars.
