With more than 50 years of professional experience, John B Riggs has worked as the principal of John Riggs Architect in Tucson, AZ, since 1996. Prior to entering this position, he excelled as president of Architecture One Ltd. in Tucson, AZ, from 1970 to 1996 and in Phoenix, AZ, from 1980 to 1990. Overlapping with this work, he was employed by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, where he acted on the examination planning committee from 1986 to 1987, as a coordinator in 1985, assistant coordinator of the examination a committee in 1984, and on the examination committee from 1981 to 1986.

In addition to his primary endeavors, Mr. Riggs served as a member of the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration from 1980 to 1987, where he also held the role of chair from 1983 to 1984. He worked as a designer with Freidman and Jobusch from 1969 to 1970 and as a draftsman with CNWC-Architects from 1968 to 1969. His first job was as a draftsman with Terry Atkinson from 1966 to 1968.

Mr. Riggs became involved in his work because he aspired to be like his mother, who enrolled in a correspondence course in architecture. He was inspired by watching the drawings his mother had done and wanted to continue what she had started. His interest in architecture was further reinforced in that he developed a talent for building things and playing with toy logs and bricks. In the end, his professional path came together in a way that led him toward a successful career.

Before establishing himself as a trusted voice in the field, Mr. Riggs sought to expand his knowledge through the pursuit of a formal education. He attended the University of Arizona and obtained a Bachelor of Architecture in 1966. Subsequently, he earned various certifications. He was a registered architect in New Mexico from 1990 to 1995, Texas from 1988 to 1997, Washington from 1986 to 2001, Nevada from 1985 to 2000, Utah from 1984 to 1996, Colorado from 1984 to 2009, and Arizona since 1970. He also achieved a certification through the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards from 1984 to 2004.

A leading voice in his industry, Mr. Riggs has been active with a number of organizations. He was formerly on the advisory committee at the University of Arizona’s College of Architecture, Planning & Landscape Architecture from 2002 to 2005. He also held the posts of vice president and board member for the Arizona Theatre Company from 1980 to 1987. Likewise, he maintained involvement on the board of directors with the Southern Arizona chapter of the American Institute of Architects from 1974 to 1977. With the Western Conference of Architectural Registration Boards, he found success as chair from 1986 to 1987 and vice president and member of the board of directors of the Arizona chapter from 1986 to 1987.

In light of his accomplishments, Mr. Riggs was honored with the Blue Chip Enterprise Award in 1995. He has previously been selected for inclusion in such publications as Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the West, and Who’s Who in the World. He was born on June 26, 1942, in Tucson, AZ, to mother Anna Lee McAleb Riggs and father John Stark Riggs. He later married Jennifer J. Jewett on June 9, 1979. He is now the proud father of four children named Jeff, Bran, Courtney, and Jennifer. Moreover, he has three grandchildren named Cody, Aspen, and Mason, and one great-grandson named Landon.
