John Edward Seward Jr., Insurance Company Executive, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in insurance.
In 1965, Mr. Seward’s first opportunity in pursuing his career came from a position at Guaranteed Reserve Life Insurance. He was hired by Kenneth B. Andre Junior, his mentor, and after a lot of encouragement decided to fully pursue accounting, finance, and insurance. Displaying a splendor of natural ability, he rose rather quickly in the insurance business. After various positions in the insurance field, Mr. Seward had the opportunity to work for Warren Buffett at Home and Auto Insurance for 10 years. In that time, Mr. Buffett became another mentor to Mr. Seward. In 1995, Mr. Seward founded the Business Risk Insurance Company, which became one of the leaders in writing workers compensation monoline throughout the country.
The success of Mr. Seward’s career is also supported by his academic pursuits. He first earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Northern Illinois University in 1965 and later received a Bachelor of Science in finance from St. Joseph’s College in 1968. He has also supplemented his career achievements with a number of certifications, including becoming a (CIC) Certified Insurance Counselor; (CLU) a Chartered Life Underwriter; a (CPIA) Certified Professional Insurance Agent; a (CPCU) Charted Property Casualty Underwriter; a (DG) Lifetime Deputy Governor of the American Biological Institute; a (FIBA) Fellow of the International Biographical Association; a (FLMI) Fellow of the Life Management Institute; and as a (CPA) Certified Public Accountant. He has leveraged these certifications at a number of companies. Throughout his career, Mr. Seward dedicated his skills and expertise to the Guarantee Reserve Life Insurance Co., the Gambles Insurance Co, Home & Auto Insurance Co., Universal Fire & Casualty Insurance Co., J&J Underwriting Services and Concord General, amidst many other companies.
Mr. Seward’s work has been recognized on numerous occasions and he has been the recipient of several accolades and awards throughout his career. In 1993, he was named to the Wall of Fame of T.F. South High School. He has also been recognized as the Research Advisor of Year, as a Man of the Year by the American Biographical Institute Hall of Fame and by the Committee Leaders of America. Mr. Seward has been included in the International Book of Honor. In his retirement, Mr. Seward intends to dedicate his time to his family, especially his two twin grandchildren. He remains active in the community and their lives as a coach on his grandson’s football team.
