Dr. Smith has excelled in the field of social services for more than 25 years since immigrating to the United States from Jamaica. She first earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Argosy University Chicago, followed by a master’s degree in mental health counseling and a Doctor of Philosophy in counselor education and supervision from Capella University in 2016 and 2019, respectively. To match her abundant education, Dr. Smith is a licensed professional counselor and a certified clinical mental health counselor. Notably, she was the recipient of a award from the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York.
Boasting multiple professional roles, Dr. Smith has been the owner and chief executive officer of Solutions For U Counseling & Consulting Services LLC since 2013, the founder of Creating Pathways To Success Inc. since 2019 and an outpatient therapist at Millhill Child & Family Development since 2016. Earlier, she gained vast experience as program director for Senior Star AMDC from 2011 to 2014 and for Catholic Charities Diocese of Trenton, New Jersey from 2010 to 2012. She was initially a support coordinator at Neighbours, Inc. from 2008 to 2011.
Dr. Smith cites her ability to serve as her most notable achievement. Hailing from humble beginning, she takes great pride in being able to provide services for more than 160 clients. Seeing their smiles and progression is what makes every part of what she does worth it. In the next five years, Dr. Smith envisions herself passing the baton to her daughter, so she could take over managing their company. She hopes to be able to provide similar services in Jamaica and other Caribbean islands, giving ideas on how to build on existing support and to have a base program for individuals with cognitive disabilities, as well as a group home.
Dr. Smith’s book, “Through The Tears I Write,” is a memoir about self-help and sharing with others that their struggles do not have to define their lives, which can be their first step toward success. Given her personal experience with trauma, tragedy, loss, and the various things that she faces as a human, she realized that we, as individuals, have strengths and challenges that we face, which can be transformed into purpose and beautiful moments by turning lemons into lemonade.
