After obtaining an associate of arts in liberal arts and sciences in 1974 from Cape Cod Community College in West Barnstable, Massachusetts, Mr. Markarian continued his education receiving a Bachelor of Arts in industrial arts education in 1977 from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
Since 1987, Mr. Markarian has prospered as the founder, owner and president of Architectural Resource Center in Northwood, New Hampshire, a premier manufacturer and distributor of specialty hardware for historic buildings, specializing in the finest traditional window and door hardware available. With facilities in both the United States and Europe, the firm supplies standard and custom hardware to window manufacturers and architects working on some of the most impressive structures in the world. In addition, Architectural Resource Center supplies custom castings and provides refinishing and weather-stripping services.
Mr. Markarian became involved in his profession during his time teaching woodworking for the New Hampshire Technical College in Manchester for nearly 20 years. He sourced, designed and developed his hardware products from common materialsafter communicating directly with his customers. Mr. Markarian attributes his success to his creativity and talent for teaching others. He also credits increasing quality and production, finding new products, and discovering new markets to grow the business. Highlights of his career include being invited to the White House while doing work there. Architectural Resource Center has also done work for the Treasury Building, Capitol Building and Carnegie Hall. He is also proud to have obtained three patents for designing and fabricating a new stackable window weight.
In coming years, Mr. Markarian intends to make the company’s products more readily available to the homeowner through distribution centers in multiple locations. He additionally hopes provide direction and strategy to maintain the company’s business as it expands geographically.
