Since 2019, Dr. Blaxall has provided superior service as executive director in precision medicine with The Christ Hospital Health Network in Cincinnati, where he spearheads a diagnostic approach focusing on using individual patient data including genetics and family history responses to optimize several primary approaches and aims to shift healthcare from a reactive to a proactive approach, which is hoped can reduce emergency room visits, hospitalizations and 30-day readmissions by 40%.
Dr. Blaxall has earned several patents, has published nearly 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has received numerous local, national and international honors. The owner of numerous extensive national and international leadership positions in numerous academic and professional societies, he has served on the editorial board for numerous top professional journals and presently excels in national leadership positions for prominent professional societies in the fields of precision medicine and pharmacogenomics.
After initially obtaining bachelor’s degrees in human biology and zoology with a minor in Spanish in 1993 from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, Dr. Blaxall continued his education with a Doctor of Philosophy in pharmacology from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver in 1999, followed by postdoctoral fellowship training at Duke University Medical Center. Prior to joining The Christ Hospital Network, he has prospered as a professor with University of Cincinnati, a professor of medicine, pharmacology and physiology with the University of Rochester Medical Center and founding director of the Center for Transitional Fibrosis Research with the Children’s Hospital of Cincinnati.
Dr. Blaxall’s numerous honors include a Healthcare Hero Award by the City of Cincinnati, was named among the Top Six Innovators in the Region and Top Doctors in Cincinnati an Early Career Investigator Award from the American Heart Association and Outstanding Achievement Award by the Founder’s AHA Affiliates. His professional memberships include the American Heart Association and International Society for Heart Research.
Dr. Blaxall attributes his success to his family as well as his passion for his work in the pharmacology and medical field. Initially, he aspired to become a surgeon. However, he became passionate about research which led him to pursue his PhD degree where his interest lies in therapeutic developments. Dr. Blaxall’s work in early career development is something of which he is proudest. He was able to help people both within his lab or institution in addition to several organizations to develop a passion for medical research for the improvement of the lives of patients.
In coming years, Dr. Blaxall hopes to continue his work around the implementation science of precision medicine and hopes to make sure that the precision medicine approach is available to everyone.
