After originally intending to pursue architecture and studying at the College of William and Mary, Mr. Williams obtained a diploma in engineering and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) technology in 1966 from Virginia Commonwealth University, formerly known as the Richmond Professional Institute. He was subsequently hired at a well-known architecture and engineering firm in Richmond as an engineer-in-training, during which time he also gained experience working in HVAC. For over four decades, he has excelled as an HVAC/plumbing design engineer and with HVAC sales and sales management.
Since 2009, Mr. Williams has prospered as president of the Shelly Williams Company, LLC, a premier manufacturer’s representative headquartered in Richmond and covering Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina that specializes in high efficiency heating and cooling products with a concentration in energy recovery systems enhancing indoor environmental quality. The company offers project budgeting and design assistance, training, commissioning and sales for all products it represents. The Shelly Williams Company possesses over 120 years of combined HVAC engineering and system sales experience with professional engineers, a certified energy manager and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)- accredited professionals on staff.
To remain aware of changes and advancements in his field, Mr. Williams maintains affiliations with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Richmond Chapter, which he served as president from 1989 to 1990. In addition, he serves on the VCU Alumni Board for the School of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Williams’ goal in the coming years is to continue to grow the Shelly Williams Company slowly and gradually, maintain good health and achieve as much success as possible.
