As a career-best accomplishment, Mr. Gierek cites selling the very first lateral restraint system, used to support walls that are suffering from lateral movement and are therefore pulling away from the main structure, in the Seattle area, which was accomplished while he was working for the Simpson Strong-Tie Company, which evolved the equipment from multiple working parts to what is now sold as a system. Mr. Gierek has specific customers that will use the system because of the design criteria that is associated with it. He considers being fully immersed in the lateral restraint market evolution to be the highlight of his career. In the coming years, Mr. Gierek sees himself working as a consultant for his employer, Valley Construction Supply, which would enable him to share his knowledge with the next generation and still actively contribute to his profession.
