William A. Brandt, Jr., executive chairman of Development Specialists Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in corporate reconstruction.
Bolstered by five decades of experience, Mr. Brandt has excelled as the head of his company, Development Specialists Inc., headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. After founding the company in 1976, he held the positions of president and chief executive officer until 2017. Since then, he has operated as the executive chairman. As part of his vocational responsibilities, Mr. Brandt specializes in corporate reconstruction, assisting companies in overcoming financial and organizational challenges.
In addition to his work with Development Specialists Inc., Mr. Brandt also previously served as an employee with Melaniphy & Associates Inc. in Chicago, Illinois, between 1975 and 1976. Adjacent to his primary duties, he also functioned as a member of the Illinois Broadband Deployment Council from 2010 to 2015, the chair of the Illinois Finance Authority from 2008 to 2015, and a member of the advisory board of social welfare at Sociological Abstracts Inc. from 1979 to 1983. Mr. Brandt began his career in 1972, working as an assistant to the president of Pyro Mining Company until 1974. As part of his commitment in the field, he has also participated as a member of numerous industry-related organizations, including the Bay Area Bankruptcy Forum from 2003 to 2012, the International Insolvency Institute, and the American Bankruptcy Institute.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Brandt pursued a formal education, beginning with his time at Saint Louis University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology in 1971. He subsequently continued his studies at The University of Chicago, where he achieved a Master of Arts in sociology in 1972 and completed all but his dissertation. To wit, he was well regarded for his academic performance, and he received several notable grants and scholarships over the course of his educational career, including the La Verne Noyes Scholarship for Graduate Training and the Ford Foundation Research and Training Grant. In addition to his vocational and academic credentials, Mr. Brandt is also well regarded for his scholarly output, having contributed articles to numerous professional journals.
Mr. Brandt has also been recognized for his dedication to politics and civic advocacy. To wit, he formally identifies as a democrat, having participated in the 2008 Democratic National Convention and the Democratic Party Platform Committee in 2000, and he regularly participates with the Illinois Sociological Association, Urban Land Institute, and The Honorable Tina Brozman Foundation. To commemorate his accomplishments in the field, he received the 46th Leadership in Credit Education Award from the New York Institute of Credit in 2020, as well as the Magis Medal from Alpha Sigma Nu, the national Jesuit honor society. In the coming years, Mr. Brandt hopes to continue his work in the field and hopefully offer his expertise in legislative change.
