Robert E. Falcone, MD, Chief Executive Officer of the Columbus Medical Association and Clinical Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in surgery and medical administration.

As an accomplished medical professional, Dr. Falcone has excelled since 2016 as the chief executive officer of the Columbus Medical Association. Since 2000, he has shared his knowledge as a clinical professor of surgery with The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Prior to these positions, he was the vice president of population health with the Ohio Hospital Association from 2013 to 2015, the chief of staff of the Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center from 2011 to 2013, and a professor of clinical surgery with the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine from 2012 to 2013.

Dr. Falcone previously excelled as the acting chief of staff for both the Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center, as well as the chief of staff for the Chalmers P. Wylie Veterans Affairs Ambulatory Care Center. From 2006 to 2009, he was a health care consultant, and between 2002 and 2006, he was the chief operating officer and president of the Grant Medical Center. Dr. Falcone boasts an accomplished career as a medical administrator dating back to 1984, when he became the director of trauma services for the Riverside Methodist Hospital. From 1977 to 1985, he was a clinical instructor in surgery with The Ohio State University.

In preparation for his career in medicine, Dr. Falcone attended Kent State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry, magna cum laude, in 1973. In 1976, he earned a Doctor of Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, subsequently completing a rotating internship, surgical residency, and trauma and surgical critical care residency with the Riverside Methodist Hospital between 1976 and 1981. A visiting fellow in biliary lithotripsy in 1989, Dr. Falcone additionally earned a Master of Fine Arts from the Columbus College of Art and Design in 2016. He has continued his education throughout his career, completing the CompHealth Scholars Program at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina in 1996, the VHA Physicians Leadership Program in 1997, and attending the Health Care Leadership Institute in 2010.

Dr. Falcone has been recognized for his accomplishments in medicine with numerous awards and honors, including the James Fairchild Baldwin Award from the Grant Medical Center in 2009 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from The Ohio State University in 2006. Further, he earned a Distinguished Physician Award from the Air Medical Physician Association in 2005 and the Community Service Medallion from Ohio Health in 2001, among multiple additional recognitions. Dr. Falcone has maintained membership as a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a fellow of the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He has also served as the president of the Ohio chapter of the American College of Surgeons and the president of the board of trustees for the Central Ohio Trauma Systems Foundation, among other affiliations.

Alongside his achievements in medical administration, Dr. Falcone has been published in more than 90 peer-reviewed publications, and has contributed to dozens of books, chapters and monographs. He has also given more than 150 national and international presentations on trauma and critical care medicine. In his spare time, Dr. Falcone enjoys playing bass guitar. He has published multiple music albums, and additionally practices martial arts, holding a black belt.
