Jack Edwin McGregor, chairman, director and president of Aquarion Water Company, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law and utility administration.
With almost seven decades of experience to his credit, Jack Edwin McGregor has cultivated a prosperous career in the fields of law and utility administration. Since 1995, he has operated as the chairman, director and president of Aquarion Water Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The public water supply company serves approximately 700,000 customers throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and it is recognized as the largest investor-owned water utility company in New England. Mr. McGregor originally joined the business in 1985 as the executive vice president, and he subsequently served as the chief executive officer from 1990 to 1995.
Mr. McGregor began his career in the early 1960s, working in the field of law as an associate at Reed Smith Shaw & McClay in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He later operated as general counsel for the Pay Board in Washington, D.C., between 1971 and 1972 and as an assistant legal advisor of economic affairs for the United States Department of State in 1971. Adjacent to his legal duties, he also became heavily involved in politics as his career progressed. At the age of 28, he became the second youngest state senator to be elected in the state of Pennsylvania as a moderate Republican, serving from 1962 to 1970. Among his other professional achievements, Mr. McGregor is also the founder of the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey club, as part of the National Hockey League.
Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, Mr. McGregor pursued a formal education, earning a Bachelor of Science at Yale University in 1956. He subsequently joined the United States Marine Corps and honorably served from 1956 to 1959, achieving the rank of captain before retiring. After he was honorably discharged, Mr. McGregor returned to school, earning a Juris Doctor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1962. He concluded his studies at Quinnipiac University in 1995, where he earned a second Doctor of Laws. In addition to his academic credentials, Mr. McGregor was also licensed to practice law by the United States Supreme Court in 1971, and he remains affiliated with the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the District of Columbia Bar.
From a young age, Mr. McGregor was heavily invested in pursuing a career as a corporate executive. To wit, Pittsburgh was always home to many notable businesses and corporations, and he strived to lead such a company and enjoy a wealth of success. Over the course of his career, he also led such notable companies as Potomac Electric Power Company in Washington, D.C., in addition to Carey Energy Corporation and Hampton-Douglas Corporation in New York.
