Michael D. Byrnes, CIH, CSP, Senior Industrial Hygienist at The LiRo Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in industrial hygiene and safety.

With many years of experience to his credit, Mr. Byrnes has excelled as the senior industrial hygienist and a radiation safety officer for The LiRo Group since 2001. Prior to these appointments, she worked for a number of additional companies as an industrial hygienist, contributed to asbestos abatement projects and began his career in an industrial hygiene laboratory. Furthermore, Mr. Byrnes has been active as a member of the Metropolitan New York chapter of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.

Over the course of his professional endeavors, Mr. Byrnes served as a site inspector for the demolition of Fiterman Hall, which had been severely damaged by debris during  9/11. He had also participated in a number of projects contracted by the New York City Transit Authority, including an on-call industrial hygiene project with the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority. Likewise, Mr. Byrnes has contributed to multiple asbestos abatement projects.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Byrnes pursued an education at Manhattan College, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering in 1984. He was subsequently designated as a certified industrial hygienist, a certified safety professional, an authorized outreach trainer by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and a radiation safety officer. Mr. Byrnes was inspired to enter his field by his brother, who was a chemical engineer.

Mr. Byrnes attributes his success to his passion for mathematics and his inherent skill within his areas of expertise. Among the highlights of his career, he is proud to have been part of eight of the ten incinerator demolition projects in New York City, acquiring his certifications and overseeing plumbing disinfections in HAZMAT cases for the New York City Department of Education. Looking toward the future, Mr. Byrnes hopes to continue thriving in his field until he decides to retire.
