Jason C. Smith, Chief Information Officer of the 5th Medical Group with the Defense Health Agency, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in information technology and health care administration.
Since 2022, Mr. Smith has served as the chief information officer for the Defense Health Agency’s 5th Medical Group at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. Previously, he served as a lead engineer with the Bureau of Land Management for five years and was a customer support lead for medical activity with the United States Navy in Bavaria. From 2006 to 2011, Mr. Smith worked as a lead networking systems administrator and health care systems administrator for the United States Department of Defense in Germany, and from 1997 to 2006 he was a combat photographer.
Mr. Smith prepared for his professional pursuits at Capella University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in information systems with a minor in graphics and multimedia in 2010. In 2020, he earned a Master of Public Administration from the same institution. Alongside his formal degrees, Mr. Smith is Security Plus Certified through CompTIA, is a Certified Professional with the Society for Human Resource Management, and is a Certified Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute.
To keep abreast of his career field, Mr. Smith has been a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. In addition, he is an active member of AFCEA International. In his current position, he is responsible for training users, managing security networks, and managing information systems, among other duties. Mr. Smith is also a semi-professional bassist.
Mr. Smith attributes his success to his refusal to quit, his appetite for challenge, and his commitment to public service. After serving in active duty as a combat photographer, he was introduced to the health care field during his time in Germany, where he worked as a health care systems administrator for the United States Department of Defense. Mr. Smith realized he wanted to stay in the health care administration industry. In the coming years, he hopes to continue his success in his current position and advance into a more senior role in a larger facility.
