Alfredo U. Torres, Retired Librarian at Miami Dade Public Library and Miami Dade College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in library sciences.

With more than 20 years of experience to his credit,  Mr. Torres is currently retired, having most recently excelled as a librarian with the Miami Dade Public Library from 1996 to 2016. Previously, he served as a librarian at Miami Dade College and the head librarian for the Information Center of the Ministry of Justice. Furthermore, Mr. Torres has been affiliated with both the American Library Association and the Florida Library Association throughout his impressive career.

Prior to embarking on his professional path, Mr. Torres pursued an education at Havana University in Cuba, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in library science. However, upon his arrival in the United States, his degree was considered invalid, forcing him to continue his formal academic efforts while overcoming the challenges of the language barrier and the necessity of full-time work. Mr. Torres eventually concluded his studies at the University of South Florida, earning a Master of Library Science.

Beyond his responsibilities within his field, Mr. Torres has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his immediate professional circles. Having programmed various activities for children, including those with arts and crafts, he was additionally active as a storyteller and puppeteer for children. Moreover, Mr. Torres was proudly involved in a camp that was organized by Catholic Charities in Miami-Dade.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Torres has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. In 1997, he was presented with the Team of Excellence Plaque for Best Children’s Librarian from the Miami Dade Public Library as a testament to his stellar contributions. Likewise, he was recognized with the Best Employee Award from the Ministry of Justice for three years. Attributing his success to his ability to endure and overcome obstacles, Mr. Torres hopes to live as much as he can and enjoy life in his retirement while possibly focusing on becoming a part-time librarian.
