Paul H. Mitchell, retired vice president of special projects from Nike Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the fields of engineering and innovation.
With several decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Mitchell has cultivated a career of excellence as an innovator in the field of engineering. Now retired, he previously served as the vice president of special projects at Nike Inc. from 1998 to 2001. He also formerly maintained the positions of president and chief executive officer for Nike Air Manufacturing Innovation from 1993 to 1998. As a leader within the Nike brand, Mr. Mitchell oversaw various company procedures and prioritized streamlining business processes, which allowed for increased sales and product quality.
Throughout his career, Mr. Mitchell accomplished many of his goals via his specialization in plastics and polymers. In addition to shoes, he also worked extensively in the production of water skis. He originally began his career by working with Whirlpool as an accountant, before subsequently rising into the fields of management within Nike. He also served with Tetra Plastics Inc. for several years. As part of his continued dedication to his profession, he has remained active as a member of the advisory board of The University of Kansas School of Engineering since 1994.
Mr. Mitchell previously pursued a formal education at The University of Kansas, where he enrolled in and completed a small company management program over the course of three years. In 1983, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the university. Following his graduation, Mr. Mitchell honorably served in the United States Army for two years, commanding a strike battalion of 200 soldiers during that time. Outside of his primary vocational interests, he also remains active as a civic-minded citizen, serving as the president of the Bonita Bay Hurricane Relief Fund Incorporated. Additionally, Mr. Mitchell is a board member of the Bonita Bay Club.
To commemorate his accomplishments, Mr. Mitchell has been honored with several accolades over the course of his career, including recognition as the Businessman of the Year in 1993 and a Distinguished Service Award. Accounting for his achievements, he is most notably proud of his involvement in the development of new polymers used in the creation of Nike Air soles. In light of his fulfilling career, he largely attributes his success to his skills as an innovator and leader. Looking to the future, Mr. Mitchell hopes to continue helping others and promoting causes he believes in.
