Jerry Whitehead, Founder and Consultant of the Pawn Shop Consulting Group LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pawnbroker consulting.
Mr. Whitehead is the founder of the Pawnshop Consulting Group LLC, through which he advises other individual groups, or larger private and public companies on many facets of the pawn industry today. He followed a family legacy of entrepreneurship and began his consulting career and company officially in 2001, relying on deep industry experience. For example, Mr. Whitehead was the chief executive officer of Pawn Max, Inc., Max Title, Inc., and Payday Max, Inc., from 1996 to 2001, and he was the chief operating officer of Doc Holliday’s Pawnbrokers and Jewelers from 1993 to 1996. Prior appointments include the role of Vice President, and chief operating officer of Whitehead’s Investments DBA Uncle Joe’s Pawnshops between 1988 and 1992. He was the owner and founder of Pacific Music and Traders, Maui Hawaii, a high-level sound production company serving the Hawaiian Islands from 1983 to 1987. Mr. Whitehead began his career in the pawn industry in 1968 and has continued to serve in the industry to date for more than 50 years as a second-generation pawn broker with a worldwide client base today.
Civic engagement is vital to Mr. Whitehead’s broad interests, as is his pursuit of roles in affiliate organizations. From 1996 to 2000, he served as the director and president of the District 1 Florida Pawnbrokers Association, and from 1993 to 2019 he served on the advisory board, board of directors, and the board of trustees for the National Pawnbrokers Association. Moreover, he was the acting director on the board of directors for the Texas Pawnbrokers Association from 1987 to 1996.
Mr. Whitehead also pioneered the industry’s only Pawn Peer focus group, which in 2023 will move into its 12th year in existence and to date, is the only pawn specific industry focus group. Through his consulting practice and constant endeavor to improve the industry, he has produced a series of other education and trade show events such as the industry famed – International Pawn Symposium series (Cayman Islands/Naples), the Crossover EXPO series – a group of high level educational trade shows which were pawn industry specific, the Pawn Management educational series, and provides various public speaking engagements with national and international groups around the world today.
A variety of awards and commendations have marked Mr. Whitehead’s entrepreneurial success. For example, he received the Prestigious Associate Vendor of the Year Award from the National Pawnbrokers Association in 2006. He attributes his success to the valuable mentorship of his father, Bob Whitehead Sr., and mother Kaye Hathorn, Joe Owens, and his brother Bobby Whitehead Jr., all of whom inspired him to rely on hard work and diligence to advance. He also values the close collaboration that is aligned with industry membership, and he is an industry partner with the Georgia Pawnbrokers Association, the Texas Association of Pawnbrokers, the National Pawnbrokers Association in the USA, and the California Association of Pawnbrokers. Mr. Whitehead also holds a seat on the advisory board of the Jewelry Appraisal and Gemological Institute (JAGI), and advises other industry trade associations in Mexico, Colombia, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
