Bret O’Neal, Director of EV, ADAS & Software at AVL, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sustainable energy and electric vehicle development.
Leveraging more than a decade of excellence in business development and account leadership, Mr. O’Neal has earned the distinction of leading all sales and business development efforts for AVL’s largest North America account, Ford Motor Company (FMC). Since joining AVL in 2021, he has focused his efforts on supporting FMC in the development, testing, and validation of new technologies and new vehicles. He aims to help FMC bring these new technologies and vehicles to the market while providing consulting services for other companies, including McKinsey and Company, GLG, Coleman Research, proSapient, and AlphaSights.
Prior to his current role, Mr. O’Neal began his career as a sales manager for Tesla starting in 2007. In 2012, he moved on to become the sales director for ChargePoint, the world’s largest provider of electric vehicle charging solutions. Then in 2016, he transitioned into the automotive electronics industry as the senior business development manager for Flex (formerly known as Flextronics), the second largest contract manufacturer of electronics in the world. Furthering his development and knowledge in the world of automotive electronics, in 2018 he became a strategic account manager for NXP Semiconductors where he managed the electronics content going into and defining a new age of electrified and autonomous vehicles coming from new entrants like Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid Motors.
Among his professional accomplishments, he has been a top performer in sales, business development, account management and program management. He has managed customers in the private sector, including Fortune 100 companies, global automotive manufacturers, and automotive Tier 1 suppliers as well as customers in the public sector, including government, municipal, and educational institutions. In recognition of his stellar work, he was honored with an Outstanding Alumnus Award from the University of Hartford School of Business.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. O’Neal earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Hartford, graduating at the very top of his class in 2007. Within the coming years, he intends to further his passion for sustainable transportation and expand his expertise by taking on responsibility for additional automotive accounts in North America, such as General Motors and Stellantis.
