Matthew B. Smolensky, associate editor at the Santa Barbara News-Press, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of journalism.
Leveraging over two decades of experience in the publishing industry, Mr. Smolensky has cultivated a fulfilling career as a journalistic editor. For much of his time in the field, he has worked at the Santa Barbara News-Press, and in 2023, he took on a role as an associate editor, where he proofreads articles and manages the newspaper’s online presence and design. During the early stages of his career, Mr. Smolensky maintained a larger focus on politics, particularly pertaining to his city and local school boards, as well as matters involving his city’s council and county board. Adjacent to his primary duties, he also remains active as a civic-minded citizen, regularly participating as a volunteer at his local library and within The American Legion.
Prior to joining the Santa Barbara News-Press, Mr. Smolensky operated as an editor at another local newspaper for five years. Additionally, before embarking on his vocational journey, he pursued a formal education, attending Monmouth University and earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and political science in 2001. In light of his fulfilling career, he has largely attributed his success to his sense of balance and his flexibility. Accounting for his accomplishments, he is particularly proud to have covered the dramatic and tragic story that originally helped to kick-start his career. In the coming years, Mr. Smolensky hopes to continue thriving in the newspaper business for as long as possible while also remaining aware of what new opportunities may appear on the horizon in his field.
