Since 2016, he has focused his efforts on academically developing an integrated retirement planning process which combines the fundamentals of long-term tax planning with both deterministic and stochastic retirement plan modeling. Dan has spoken about this unique combined discipline planning to local organizations, giving expert insight to other local professionals. In addition to this, Dan’s role has included handling taxation, compliance, planning and investment strategy for the company internally, while ensuring the tax results they produce match what is expected. He is a valued member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Western New York Estate Planning Council, and the Financial Planning Counselors of Western New York, among other professional organizations.
Outside of his primary career efforts, Mr. Byles-Smith operates a small farm with his family in Hamburg, New York, where they raise alpacas, goats and other animals. Likewise dedicated to civil advocacy, he serves as the board vice president of the Financial Planning Counselors of WNY and has previously served on the board for multiple non-profit organizations. Mr. Byles-Smith was notably appointed to the Professional Advisor Council for the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Byles-Smith began his career in public accounting as a senior tax associate with Miller, Cooper and Co., Ltd. in 2009 and served as a senior accountant with Chiampou Travis Besaw and Kershner LLP in 2011. Following this time, he served as a tax manager for Freed Maxick CPAs, P.C. in 2013 until becoming a tax director for Waterford Advisors, LLC in 2016.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Byles-Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting and economics from Purdue University in 2009. Following this achievement, he attained a Master of Science in taxation from Northeastern University in 2016. Well-qualified in his field, he is a certified public accountant and Certified Financial PlannerTM.
Within the coming years, Mr. Byles-Smith intends to continue developing robust and innovative combined discipline planning strategies with his team at Waterford Advisors, LLC. He and his colleagues take pride in running a company that holds integrity and honesty at the highest priority.
