Joann D. Frankel, MSW, ACSW, NASW, President of the Board of Directors at Lakewood Center for the Arts, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in social work and business administration.
With many years of experience to her credit, Ms. Frankel has excelled as the president of the board of directors for the Lakewood Center for the Arts since 2019, having formerly flourished with the center as a treasurer, a member of the executive board, and president of the volunteer association. Prior to this position, she found much success in the field of social work, working as a social worker, a welfare worker for Children Protective Services, a juvenile court counselor, a psychiatric case worker, a marriage and family counselor for the Multnomah County Court of Domestic Relations and an administrator for the Support Services Division of the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries. Moreover, she previously served as the owner of a furniture import/export business in Indonesia and a staff member with the Sampoerna Executive Resource Company. Passionate about helping others in need, Ms. Frankel has been involved with numerous charities and civic organizations over the years, including the American Women’s Association, the Overseas Wives Associations, and both orphanages and schools in Singapore, to name only a few.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Frankel pursued an education at the University of Oregon, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science in sociology with a minor in psychology in 1962. She concluded her studies at Portland State University in 1970, graduating from the Graduate School of Social Work with a Master of Social Work in 1970. Attributing her success to her hard work, her dedication and her desire to help people, she was notably presented with the 2017 Betty Kingsbury Heritage Award for Exemplary Service to the Theater since 1984 and the 2020 Fortuna Award for Outstanding Business Partner for The Arts from The Arts Council of Lake Oswego. Proud of having built strong relationships within her family, especially her three wonderful children, Ms. Frankel hopes to continue volunteering in the arts while providing women with the training and educational resources needed to reach their full potential.
