With nearly 40 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Smith has excelled with Dog Trainer US as a mentor and owner since 2005, the Sundance Trainer Academy as an owner since 2005, and AZ Star as president and a training officer since 1998. During this time, she has been additionally active as the director of the Veterinary Health Care Team of Arizona with the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association since 2002. Moreover, she served as a head trainer for K9-Games Dog Training with Dog Trainer US from 2005 to 2020, the president of the Veterinary Health Care Team of Arizona with the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association from 2008 to 2009 and the owner of The Original Who’s The Boss?, Inc. from 2007 to 2009. Ms. Smith began her career on the office staff for James Record, MD between 1985 and 1989.
To support her professional ambitions, Ms. Smith pursued an education at the University of Houston-Victoria, where she completed undergraduate coursework. She subsequently obtained her certifications as a canine athlete specialist, a veterinary technician and a professional dog trainer instructor. Furthermore, Ms. Smith earned 8 certifications in relation to search and rescue including as a professional scuba diver and a dive master.
In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Smith has accrued several accolades throughout her career. Notably, the Victoria Dog Obedience Club presented her with a Community Service Award for Search and Rescue and a Most Distinguished Award over the years. She was likewise recognized with multiple awards from the Veterinary Healthcare Team of Arizona and the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association, including the President’s Award. Ms. Smith was also honored with awards from AZ Star and IACP.
Ms. Smith attributes her success to her perseverance and her desire to thrive in both her personal and professional endeavors. Having been drawn to her field by frequent requests to coach pet owners regarding their pet’s behavioral issues while seeking her veterinary technician certification, she decided to focus on dog training on a full-time basis after recovering from a medical emergency. Among her most notable accomplishments, she is incredibly proud that the service dogs that she trained learned how to problem solve and teach themselves. In the coming years, Ms. Smith hopes to continue growing her businesses, mentor new dog trainers, and hire someone to take over the search and rescue group in her absence.
