With nearly 20 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Sowell has excelled as president at Blackwater Tiger Consulting since 2021. In this position, he consults and advises clients on high-level strategy, mastering the marketplace, defining barriers to entry, and pinpointing services needed for their clients. Prior to this position, he was active as vice president of operational excellence at Blue Cross Blue Shield of America from 2004 to 2021.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Sowell pursued an education at Montgomery County Community College, where he completed his associate’s degree. He continued his academic efforts at the University of Phoenix, earning a Bachelor of Science in business management in 1999. He concluded his studies with a Master of Arts in organizational management from the University of Phoenix in 2004.
Beyond his responsibilities, Mr. Sowell has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He served as a board member for the Southwest Center of HIV/AIDS from 2009 to 2017. Likewise, he has been a supporter of various charities at CrossWalk Church in Phoenix, Arizona, including food drives for needy families and schools during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and throughout the year.
In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Sowell remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. During his tenure at Blue Cross Blue Shield, he discovered a passion for enhancing consumers’ healthcare experiences, prompting him to join Blackwater Tiger Consulting, which provided him with the opportunity to work with an array of companies to streamline their operations. Additionally, he does periodic consulting with Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS and providing training for board members. A member of the American Society for Quality, Mr. Sowell is a Lean Six Sigma-certified Black Belt and holds a Six Sigma Online certification from the Aveta Business Institute. He is also a certified advanced FAST facilitator, and acquired a MG RUSH Facilitation training and coaching certification.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Sowell has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was presented with the Financial Stewardship of the Board Award from the Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS, and a Quality Award from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. Mr. Sowell considers making the healthcare process more straightforward and affordable his most notable achievement and attributes his success to his continued education. In the immediate future, he would like to continue impacting the national healthcare system, particularly by reducing costs for families.
